Current project or activity: Build of new Torrens University Australia website and content managing.
Proudest accomplishment: Managing and implementing a one week education agent familiarisation tour of 26 agents from 11 different countries in consultation with 20 education providers in South Australia. Another proud achievement was managing the rollout of a new rebrand including website, collateral, stakeholder uptake and campaign.
WhIch brand do you most admire and why? Air B&B – innovative, young, inspiring, and it’s a creative and challenger brand. Very customer focused, aware of competition in online holiday booking market, produce meaningful marketing content and understand their customer base. Main focus on user and customer experience.
Marketing program you wish you had worked on? Restaurant Australia, Tourism Australia campaign.
The most valuable marketing lesson you’ve picked up during your career? Importance of customer research and knowing your customer base.
What are the biggest challenges facing marketers today? Budgets to gain enough cut-through in a competitive market. Resistance of senior management.
Best recent technological advance for marketing? Influence of mobile marketing and a more responsive online market (e.g. people commenting and always talking about good/bad experiences).
What does “Fuelling Progress” mean to you? Accelerating progress in the marketing sphere. Not overly inspirational tagline.
Do you think sustainability is a burning issue for marketing? Important but not a ‘burning’ issue.
What attributes make a great marketer? Someone who is adaptable, able to change, constantly looking at a step ahead and the greater picture. Someone who admires successful brands and learns from failures and previous successes. A creative eye/mind is a must.
Best lesson learnt from your days at university? Marketing is constantly evolving especially with new technologies. Sink or swim.
